Q : What is the difference between keywords & keyword phrases (or keyphrases) ? Do they matter in Search Engine Optimization ?

Keywords : Words which can define the content for which it has been taken.

Keyword Phrases : Keyword Phrases ( or Keyphrase) is logical combination of two or more than two words or in SEO we can say it is a combination of two or more than two keywords.

For Search Engines both play their roles significantly. Generally people use keyphrases for their searches. Like if they want a blog on seo then generally they search the blog with a keyphrase "blog on SEO" instead of using keyword search with blog or just SEO because the person won't get specific results. So, keyphrases helps in providing the more accurate results. Use of keywords with keyphrases make the searchability more effective with generic terms like SEO or Blog (in this case)

so the best way of meta tag editing is the combination of Keywords and Keyphrases.
